PERFORMANCE - TECHNICAL

SCALES Range: Two octaves where possible. Tempo: Quavers at 120 bpm.

All Major, Harmonic, Melodic and Natural Minors.

Blues Scale in the following keys: F Bb C D
-
Chromatic Scale Two Octaves.
-
Arpeggios. Major, minor, dominant seventh and diminished seventh. One octave.

Performance and Improvisation Test: Twelve Bar Blues in any of the following keys. F, C, G, Bb. Minimum of 120 bpm.

Own Choice Ballad. Tempo 60-72 bpm.

Sight Reading. One piece from a big band arrangement will be given at the audition. The supervising teacher will present the sight reading test piece.
N.B. Please provide CD play-a-longs.
AURAL TEST
-
Melodic and rhythmic dictation.
-
Chord quality recognition. Major, minor, and dominant seventh Chords in root position, first and second inversions.
WRITTEN THEORY TEST
The Candidate will demonstrate familiarity with the following:

Chord symbols
-
Major and minor key signatures.
-
Compound time signatures.
-
Treble, bass, alto, and tenor clefs.
-
Transpositions for trumpet, soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones.
Interstate applicants may submit by mail, all aspects of the performance section by CD or DVD, accompanied by the written theory test. Both sections of the audition must be supervised and authenticated by a registered teacher.
