Music Directors are asked to nominate the division of entry by the choice of set piece listed below. The choice is at the discretion of the Music Director and should reflect the standard and ability of the band.

This year’s Division 1 test piece is entitled "From This Day".
The chart is a Latin groove that gets funky, with plenty of scope for percussion.
Dynamics and a great sectional blend will be very important with the melody being shared between different sections. The piece can be played with either acoustic or electric bass and an electric guitar with a 'chorus' would be ideal.
Solos are available for Tenor, piano, guitar and flugel horn/trpt. Whilst not all of these are needed, it would be good to have two different soloists. If your ensemble uses a vibraphone, that would also be good for a solo.
There are no extremely fast be-bop lines and few technical extremes required but the ensemble playing (intonation, dynamics, time feel) will need to be excellent to get the best out of this arrangement.
Harmonically this piece is a little more 'adventurous' than many of the Div 1 charts of the last few years and I’ll be looking for soloists who have really studied the chord changes, as they are quite challenging.
