James Morrison Jazz Scholarship

Scholarship Applications open on Sunday 1 January 2020 and close on Sunday 15 March 2020.

The “James Morrison Jazz Scholarship” is open to solo instrumentalists to further the jazz career of the successful entrant. The winner will receive $10,000 to assist in the development of their career.

This award is sponsored by the Evan’s family in recognition of Ron Evans love of jazz and desire to encourage talent.

Six finalists will be selected and must be available to attend final adjudication in Mount Gambier during the Generations in Jazz Festival.

Finalists residing in Australia will be flown from their closest capital city to Mount Gambier and return.

International applicants will be responsible for their arrival and departure from Melbourne Australia, with domestic return flights from Melbourne to Mount Gambier provided.

Finalists under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.  The travel expense for the parent/guardian is their responsibility.

Hosted accommodation will be provided.  If the personal choice is to arrange alternative accommodation this will be at your own expense.


Application requirements

Applicants must not be older than 19 years as at 1 January 2020.

To apply fill out the application form (link below) and submit a recording of your performance – (maximum 5 minutes each piece) via online folder (SharePoint, Dropbox, Hightail etc – details below)

For all instrumentalists (except drummers) your entry must include:

  • 12 bar blues (mp3)
  • Ballad of own choice (mp3)
  • A recent passport photograph clearly named (jpeg)


For Drummers your entry must include:

  • A swing tune (mp3)
  • A Latin tune (mp3)
  • A recent passport photograph clearly named (jpeg)
